The Courtesan Story
Once upon a time in the summer (of 2004 to be precise), the band Courtesan was founded.
Longing to express themselves four ladies decided to, through music, vent their creativity on stage.
One of its founding members left the band to live the good life in London
(an independent streak fitting the courtesan) and another lady took her place,
resulting in the current set-up.
Then, in spring 2006, the first performance became fact at the Bal du Masque in Amsterdam.
Elated, the ladies started planning future moves. For instance resulting in the upcoming
performance at Summer Darkness. So far the history... now some more insight in the ladies
and their music.
The members are: Zarathoestra, singer/songwriter, who through extensive vocal training and
voluptuousness leaves an unforgettable impression. Then there is Blanche, singer/keyboardplayer,
the sweetest of all, with a knack for melodies and good musical insights. Also there is Belmort,
percussion/songwriter, with a cool face but an overflowing heart and many stories to express.
Last but not least, madam of the group is Drionine, the lady of most experience having an
extensive musical background to rely on. Computers, keyboard, technical matters, video and guitar,
a lady to count on and take into account.
About style - difficult to express - but this is telling: Dutch neoclassical dramatic feminine
darkfolk. On stage in Victorian dress, with a background of obscure Victorian ideas, the sight
is as enthralling as the music. Then there are influences... here just a few:
medication, frustration, fornication, indignation - so very many types of inspiration in all
kinds of variation - music as well. Here, we leave you to your imagination.
